Over the years, there have been countless online football-related games. Recently, we have discovered another interesting one in the form of footy-tic-tac-toe.
What is Tiki-Taka-Toe?
The footy-tic-tac-toe homepage plays host to a number of different online games, which are all tic-tac-toe football-related games that the makers have renamed Tiki-Taka-Toe. There are four main ways to play these games:
- 1 Play against a friend
- 2 Find an opponent
- 3 Same screen
- 4 Play box-to-box
How it works?
The basic premise of the game is the same for all four varieties of play. There are club badges, national team flags, player names or competitions at the top of the grid and three running down the side with three more images of club badges, national team flags, player names or competition names.
In each box, you have to type the name of a player who has played for both the club/national team, been a teammate or been managed by a certain coach at the top and the same at the side. The first player to fill the boxes in a line of three with the correct players’ names wins the game.
It is indeed a twist on the popular old tic-tac-toe, or noughts and crosses, as it is known in the UK games of the past.
Is it fun?
Having played a few versions of the game, we can say that this game is fun to wile away some free time. It could be argued that it is not the most complicated or original concept, but there is another way of thinking that simplicity is the key appeal of the game.
Anybody can really play the game, young or old, so it is accessible to anybody who has a computer/laptop and an internet connection. The fact you can also download the tiki-taka-toe app via the Apple or Play Store means that it is easy to access and not just from your internet browser.
The app’s reviews on the Play Store are mostly positive, with a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 2k reviews. It has also proven pretty popular on the Play Store, as 100,000 people have downloaded it. It has only had two reviews on the Apple Store, with a rating of three stars out of five, although that may have been due to a software issue rather than the game itself.
Overall, it’s a good idea, and it’s well executed. The variety in the grid, such as whether a player was managed by a certain coach or played with the player, makes all the games slightly different, so they aren’t really repetitive.
The fact that you can play against friends or random opponents extends the longevity of the game, as just playing against AI on certain online games can get repetitive, although you do have the option to play against AI if you wish.
Also, the fact that you can choose between different European leagues and European competitions prevents the game from becoming boring.
One of the aspects of the game, on the browser anyway (we haven’t yet tested the app), is that although there are ads as it is free to play, they are not too invasive and mainly to the side of the game. However, that’s just our opinion, some other people may feel differently about the ads.
Although the gameplay is not state-of-the-art, it does precisely what the developers set out to do. It doesn’t pretend to be a complex game or series. It is just a decent online or mobile game, which we suspect is the developers’ aim.
This is a game that is fun for any football fan who likes a bit of strategy games. Would we recommend you play this game? Yes, especially if you want to kill some time with an inoffensive and entertaining game, especially if you are playing with friends and family.
