In the UK at least, we have developed a knack of creating football chants and/or replacing lyrics of famous songs to something more topical.
Many of the good and original football chants are often aimed at players and have a cheeky twist about them, though, there are others that are aimed at rival fans that do take on a more crude angle as well.
Most of the time, chants are more good-natured ribbing and often created out of respect, though there are others that do cross the line. Keep reading to find out which ones we have included.
An Ode To Crouch
A true fan favourite at every club he’s played at, Peter Crouch was also adored by Liverpool fans during his time on Merseyside. Well liked for his self-depracting humour, humility, work ethic and extraordinary height that caused opponents problems, the Kopp revelled in creating a comical chant about this, as you can see below.
“He’s big, he’s red,
His feet stick out of bed,
Peter Crouch! Peter Crouch!”
This City Is Ours
During Manchester City’s 6-1 demolition of Manchester United, at Old Trafford, the away fans broke into verse aimed at their rival fans who started leaving after each goal. The point of the chant was that the majority of Manchester United fans don’t reside in Manchester.
“….it’s only 4-1, it’s only 4-1, 40,000 empty seats, it’s only 4-1..
….it’s only 5-1, it’s only 5-1, 50,000 empty seats, it’s only 5-1.
….it’s only 6-1, it’s only 6-1, 60,000 empty seats, it’s only 6-1.
This city is ours, this city is ours, F*** off back to London, this city is ours!”
Who’s That T*** From Argentina?
A rather hard-hitting song from Manchester United fans about when Angel Di Maria left the club to join PSG.
“Who’s that t*** from Argentina? Who’s that money-grabbing wh**e?
Di Maria is his name and he hasn’t got a brain,
And he won’t be winning trophies anymore!”
He’s Sh*****g The Ref
At a time when it was revealed, Chelsea’s John Terry was exposed for a number of affairs, opposition fans took great delight in a riposte following a favourable decision that went the Blues’ captain’s way during a game. Not exactly creative, but sometimes, simple will do it!
“He’s sh*****g the ref, he’s sh*****g the ref!
John Terry, he’s sh*****g the ref!”
Adebayor!
Following his move to Manchester City, fans took delight in coming up with a rather original chant about a certain part of the player’s anatomy.
“Adebayor, Adebayor!
He’s hung like an elephant,
His wife’s a bit sore!”
We’ll Just Call You Dave
Chelsea had a rather interesting chant for one of their players, mostly due to his name being somewhat of a mouthful.
“We’ll just call you Dave, we’ll just call you Dave,
Azpilicueta, we’ll just call you Dave!”
The Bristol City Chant
A chant created by Bristol City fans, specialising in the art of self-deprecation and cultural cliches, this is often heard at home games in their iconic west-country dialect.

“I can’t read, I can’t write, but that don’t really matter,
‘Cos I’m a Bristol City fan, and I can drive a tra’or”
