The Premier League can, at times, provide some sensational entertainment with goals galore in some games.
When games are high-scoring, certain players can have a day to remember in front of goal, often scoring multiple goals. However, which players have scored the most goals in a single Premier League game?
Sergio Aguero (Five goals scored for Manchester City against Newcastle United on 03/10/2015)
The City modern-day legend was accustomed to scoring goals for the Citizens, being the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. He often scored multiple goals in games for City.
However, on 10th March 2015, he was in particularly prolific form, scoring five times in a 6-1 home victory over Newcastle.
What made it more incredible was that Aguero didn’t even play the whole 90 minutes, coming off on 66 minutes. In fact, all five goals came within 20 minutes.
Dimitar Berbatov (Five goals for Manchester United against Blackburn Rovers on 27/11/2010)
The former Bulgarian international can match Aguero’s goal tally of five goals in a Premier League game. The former Bayer Leverkusen star produced his big goal haul in a 7-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in October 2010.
Berbatov had previously scored four goals for Tottenham Hotspur in a 6-4 victory over Reading at White Hart Lane.
Jermain Defoe (Five goals scored for Tottenham against Wigan Athletic on 22/11/2009)
The diminutive former England bagged five goals in a 9-1 home win over Wigan Athletic. The goal haul was remarkable, as at the time, it was the second fast hat trick of the Premier League era, coming after just seven minutes.
Alan Shearer (Five goals scored for Newcastle United against Sheffield Wednesday on 19/9/1999)
The prolific former England captain enjoyed a particularly fruitful outing against Sheffield Wednesday in September 1999, as he scored five goals and also produced an assist in a thumping 8-0 home win.
The game was the first in the reign of the late great Bobby Robson as his home city club’s boss.
Andy Cole (Five goals scored for Manchester United against Ipswich Town on 04/03/1995)
The forward scored five goals in a 9-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
Cole was the first player to find the net five times in the English top flight since Liverpool’s Ian Rush and Nottingham Forest’s Tony Woodcock managed the feat in the same gameweek in 1983.
Cole Palmer (Four goals scored for Chelsea against Brighton Hove Albion on 28/09/2024)
The England international attacking midfielder scored four goals in September 2024, when he scored four goals in a 4-2 win over Brighton Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.
The feat was made even more impressive by the fact all four goals came in the first half of the game, a feat that no player has ever achieved in the history of the English top flight.
Erling Haaland (Four goals scored for Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on 04/05/2024)
The Norwegian superstar scored four goals in a 5-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Dortmund star scored a hat-trick in the first period, including a brace of penalty kicks and a fourth goal in the second half.
Cole Palmer (Four goals scored for Chelsea against Everton on 15/o4/2024)
The win over Brighton was not the first time that Palmer scored four goals in a Premier League game. In fact, it wasn’t even the first time the England international had scored four goals in a Premier League game in 2024.

His first four-goal haul of 2024 and his career came in a 6-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge in April. Palmer made history in the game by scoring Chelsea’s quickest Premier League hat-trick in just 29 minutes.
Kevin De Bruyne (Four goals scored for Manchester City against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 11/05/2022)
The Belgian attacking midfielder scored four times in a 5-1 away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
De Bruyne’s hat-trick in 29 minutes was the third-quickest in the history of the Premier League. The victory moved the Citizens within a few points of the title that season.
Gabriel Jesus (Four goals scored for Manchester City against Watford on 23/04/2022)
The Brazilian international forward scored four goals and even picked up an assist for Rodri in a 5-1 victory over Watford at the Etihad Stadium.
Jesus scored two goals in each half as City recorded their 15th straight victory over Watford in all competitions.
