Intermediate Roundup: No changes at the top

This week we begin the roundup in the NAFL, where East Belfast remain in the driving seat despite dropping two more points this week as they drew for the second week in a row, this time at home to Drumaness Mills. Ards Rangers remain in second place after a hard-earned 0-0 draw at the Cliff, a result which meant hosts Crumlin Star dropped their first points of the season. The Ardoyne men, in fourth place still have 10 games in hand on the leaders, 7 on Rangers, due to their success in the cups this season. 1st Bangor separate Ards Rangers and Crumlin Star as they sit third despite not having played a league game since early December.

In the NI Intermediate league, Maiden City also dropped their first points of the season as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Strabane in their clash at Melvin Sports Complex. Leaders Magherafelt Sky Blues got back to winning ways, a week after their own unbeaten start was ended by Maiden City, as they defeated 3rd place Ardstraw 2-0. This result seen the hosts move to 25 points, meaning they remain five points clear of Strabane at the top of the table, while Ardstraw sit four points further back on 16. Maiden City, meanwhile, are in fourth spot on 12 points from the five games they have played in the league. It is Strabane and Maiden City who have applied for promotion to the PIL next season, and both remain right in the mix for that as we head towards the business end of the season. This weekend Maiden City look to get back on track as they host Ardstraw while Magherafelt Sky Blues welcome Oxford Utd Stars to Spires Park.

In Mid Ulster, leaders Dollingstown were due to be in Marshall Cup action, but the tie at Bourneview Mill fell victim to the weather. So too did second place Crewe Uniteds visit to Camlough Rovers, but third place Banbridge Rangers did get a game and made it count with a 4-2 win over fourth place Moneyslane. This meant that Lee Feeneys men opened a four point gap on Moneyslane but with only 13 games played have three games in hand on the Jubilee Park men. Crewe sit three points above them on 34 points from 15 games, while the Dolly Birds have 38 points from 17 games. This week sees Dollingstown travel to struggling AFC Silverwood in league action, while Crewe make the trip to Laurelvale in the Marshall Cup. Banbridge Rangers, meanwhile, are on the road to Belfast to take on Immaculata in the Intermediate Cup.

On to the BPIL now, and leaders Bangor were in O’Gorman Cup action, and they seen off Ballynure OB 3-1 at the Bangor Fuels Arena. Nearest challengers Coagh United were up against Glebe Rangers also in the O’Gorman cup, and hosts Glebe won 3-0 to keep their fantastic cup record this season going. Glebe, on 17 points, are 10 points behind Bangor in the table but have 5 games in hand on the Seasiders. Coagh sit two points behind having played a game more. Bangor are back in League action this weekend as they travel to North Belfast to take on Brantwood. Coagh meanwhile host Desertmartin in the Crawford Cup, while Glebe travel to Mid Ulster side Dromara Village in the IFA intermediate Cup.
